Made of high-tech ceramics (rather than stainless steel or titanium), the Ceramica is virtually scratch proof--rating 8 on a scratch-proof scale of 1 to 10 (with aluminum rated less than 3, gold less than 4, steel less than 5, and diamond topping the scale at 10).
This straight-edged, mid-sized watch measures 30mm wide (1.2 inches), and it has a fully black coloring that's perfect for high society gatherings. The black dial includes white dial markers, Arabic numerals at the 20-minute points, and luminous stick hands. The bracelet band is composed of wide, thin single-piece ceramic links that are joined by a deployment buckle. Other features include a date window at 6 o'clock, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, ultra-precise Swiss quartz analog movement, and water resistance to 30 meters (99 feet).
The raw material for Rado's high-tech ceramics is a very fine powder that is pressed or injected into a mold. The powder is compacted into scratchproof ceramic parts in a sintering blast furnace of 1,450 degrees Celsius. These parts are given a brilliant shin by polishing with diamond dust.
